Prof. Paul Lambrechts, born in 1955, graduated as a dentist in 1978 from the Catholic University of Leuven (KULeuven), Belgium, where he also completed his PhD in 1983 with a thesis on the “Basic Properties of Dental Composites and Their Impact on Clinical Performance.” He is currently an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Oral Health Sciences at KULeuven and continues to teach postgraduate students in endodontics.
Prof. Lambrechts served as Program Director for the Bachelor-Master and Master-after-Master dental programs for 27 years, teaching courses in cariology, aspects of oral nutrition, and endodontics. His research has focused on minimally invasive endodontics, using advanced imaging techniques such as 3D X-ray Micro-CT, Cone Beam CT, and environmental SEM to innovate root canal preparation and obturation techniques. One of his main research interests is the pathology of external cervical resorption, with a focus on diagnostic and treatment protocols.
A strong advocate for microscopic dentistry, Prof. Lambrechts promotes its use in restorative procedures, endodontics, and even veterinary dentistry. His work aims to integrate micro, biological, and technological advances into clinical dentistry, research, and teaching. He has supervised numerous doctoral theses and co-authored 346 publications with the BIOMAT research group in Leuven, achieving a Hirsch index of 75. Prof. Lambrechts is also an international lecturer, offering scientific and postgraduate courses worldwide.
